Another Look – Contemporary Artists and the Collection

How is society reflected in the images we keep of it? What are the choices we make and how will they appear to those in the future? Using photographic techniques derived from the principles of the feminist methodology of diffraction I have reworked particular images from the gallery’s archive chosen due to their complicated relationship to power and gender. This is especially noticeable when viewed from today’s perspective. Joan of Arc, Edward Prince of Wales and Lady Macbeth all represent challenges to the conventions of power and gender. Here they are interwoven with historical images of authority from the Booroondara City Council. What are the effects of difference when we see these today?
